That’s what Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:58 – “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

So how does this apply to work and our daily lives?

Our work, no matter how big or small, is of great importance to God. He cares about the work we do and wants us to be productive and faithful servants to Him.

When things feel tough or mundane at work, we should remember this scripture and be reminded of our greater purpose. We may experience exhaustion from pushing ourselves too hard, but understanding our true calling as believers allows us to put things into perspective.

The Bible gives us many great examples of how to approach our daily duties with excellence – diligence (Proverbs 12:11), integrity (Proverbs 11:3), trustworthiness (Proverbs 20:7). Taking these verses to heart will give each task at hand more meaning, knowing that it ultimately serves God.

We can also rest assured knowing that God will provide for everything we need, according to His will (Philippians 4:19), so that our efforts are sustained and rewarded when it matters most. Working hard with faith in His promises will equip us with the resolve needed to take on any challenge we face. No matter how insignificant a job might seem, it’s done honorably for His glory if we remember who it is actually for – not for us, but for God!

1 Corinthians 15:58 was spoken by Paul because he believed that no amount of effort is ever wasted when it is used for the purpose of developing a closer relationship with God and bettering lives through service to others. When we approach work in this way every day, caring and serving others, real change happens – change that brings peace, joy, and glory to God. Amen!
